As some of you may be aware Mountaineering Ireland are running 2 aspirant mountaineering weekends for 18-23 year olds, one before Christmas (9th – 11th Dec in Glendalough) and one after Christmas (13th – 15th January in the Mournes). Last year over 30 students took part in the 2 weekends of which 8 joined MI in a 5 day winter skills course in Scotland. A few highlights of that course were a team ascent of Ledge route and some grade IV/V action on Ben Nevis! This year is going to be much the same with the Scottish winter trip coinciding with the MI winter meet, sometime around 17th – 26th February.
It is a very inexpensive weekend (£30/€35) and a great opportunity to learn some new skills, check out a new area and meet other likeminded students and young people!
